Overview

What the exporter does

VMFlux OBJ Exporter converts supported Navisworks model content into OBJ + MTL output for downstream workflows such as visualization, review, conversion, and external handoff.

The exporter is designed for practical project use and includes export scope control, units selection, and material-aware output behavior.

Compatibility

Supported versions

  • Navisworks 2024
  • Navisworks 2025
  • Navisworks 2026

Installation

How to install

Installation and updates are handled through the Autodesk App Store package for the exporter.

  1. 1. Go to the Autodesk App Store listing for VMFlux OBJ Exporter.
  2. 2. Download and install the package for your Navisworks version.
  3. 3. Open Navisworks after installation completes.
  4. 4. Launch the exporter from the VMFlux command or ribbon location in Navisworks.

Usage

How to open the exporter

Open Navisworks, then launch the VMFlux exporter from its installed UI entry.

Once opened, the exporter dialog lets you choose export scope, units, and whether to preserve numeric values without unit scaling.

Export options

What each option means

Export scope

Selected Models exports only the currently selected model items.

Entire Model exports the whole model available in the current Navisworks file.

Units

The exporter supports these output units:

mm, cm, m, km, in, ft, yd, mi

Keep numeric values (no unit scaling)

When this option is enabled, the exporter keeps the original numeric values instead of scaling them to match the selected output unit.

This can be useful when the downstream tool or workflow expects the original coordinate magnitudes to remain unchanged.

Output

Files generated by export

OBJ

The main geometry file containing exported mesh data.

MTL

The material definition file associated with the OBJ export.

Material behavior

The exporter includes material-aware output with real Navisworks material naming and transparency handling for more useful downstream results.

Output organization is designed to be practical for real project workflows, including per-instance group structure where applicable.

Troubleshooting

Common issues

Exporter does not open

Confirm that the correct plugin version is installed for your Navisworks version, then restart Navisworks and try again.

Export result is incomplete

Check whether you exported Selected Models instead of Entire Model, or retry with a smaller subset to isolate the issue.

Units look wrong downstream

Re-check the selected output unit and whether Keep numeric values (no unit scaling) was enabled.

Cannot write export files

Make sure the destination folder is writable and not blocked by permissions, sync software, or security controls.

Support
